The ‘Bastione di Marti’ Archaeological Site

Montopoli in Val d’Arno

The “Bastione”

A specially prepared and equipped path has been laid down on ‘Il Bastione’ hill to make it possible to appreciate the site’s beauty, historic and archaeological interest, and the environmental context of its location.
The visitor route to the archaeological area starts from the Etruscan tomb known as Gina and follows the ancient road along the hill passing by in front of the remarkable mediaeval brick kiln before ascending to the top of the mighty fortress of the Bastione. From here visitors can admire the beautiful medieval parish church of Santa Maria Novella, the Pisan hills dotted with other ancient settlements and the valley below, up to the Arno and the sea.
